First Garden Harvest 2020

Image
I hope everyone is healthy and doing alright with our new normal. When the weather permits I have been out side working on the gardens. My kale never died the winter because it was so mild. It recently started growing again.  I was able to pick a nice bunch this morning. I will be incorporating it into our meals this week. YD loves smoothies and always tosses some kale in. The gardening season has finally begin! Have you harvested anything from your garden yet this year?

Dirt

At 7 am Saturday morning a truck came and dropped of 8 yards of topsoil. Then Hubby, the kids and I got to work. It was a beautiful day out, sunny and 60 degrees. Perfect for hard labor. We have a wheel barrel and a garden wagon that can dump. 4 shovels in hand and off we went.  We had several trees taken down a few years ago. Then 2 years ago we had the driveway done. Last year we had the siding on the house done. Time to fix the lawn. We have lots of dips in the front and back yard from all of the work. I am a little clumsy and have fallen several times in them. We were able to level out the front yard and fill in the holes in the back yard. The back yard has a large hill so it will never be level but it is more of a gentle slope now. Some places didn't get dirt because they didn't need it.  We ordered pizza since I was too tired to cook. After dinner Hubby spread grass seed everywhere. Today it is raining lightly.  It was hard work but we got it done and h

Today I am grateful for CHOCOLATE! I love chocolate in every form. Whoever was the first person to say hey let me roast this bean and cook it, I thank you. I love chocolate candy, chocolate cake, chocolate frosting, brownies, mousse, and ice cream. Can you guess what I am eating right now?  What are you grateful for today?

Today I am grateful for knowing how to cook. I have come a long way in my 40+ years. Hubby wanted ravioli. However he is allergic to dairy. So we made him some ravioli with his dairy free cheese. We actually made enough for 3 future meals too. It took several hours but we got it done. Best part is we had everything we needed thanks to my well stocked pantry. We also made the sauce.  What are you grateful for today?

With everything going on with the Corona virus and being in lock down, I thought we could all use a reminder that we are lucky to have all that we do. So I am going to post something I am grateful for everyday while this goes on. I hope you will all join in with me. There is always bad out in the world. Lets shine a light on the good. Stay healthy everyone. Today I am grateful for a special friend. We talk almost everyday. The other day we were both talking about how we are out of most fresh produce. Well today she went shopping and got me a whole bunch of produce too. I was so excited. She got us a 5 pound bag of potatoes, apples, and oranges. She got a head of lettuce, baby carrots, cheddar cheese (YD lives on it) and some soy milk for Hubby. I asked what I owe and she said nothing. She said I am always doing stuff for her so it was her turn. I wanted to give her such a big hug. Instead I told her husband too for me.  What are you grateful for today?

Stay healthy everyone. Today I am grateful for my chest freezer and my crock pot. My crock pot is one of most favorite appliances in the kitchen. It makes getting dinner ready easy. I chop everything up, throw it all in, set the temp and timer and it is ready for dinner. When I worked, it was a life saver. Today I was outside weeding and dinner was cooking away.  My chest freezer was a 40th birthday present from Hubby. We don't usually spend a lot on our birthdays but I had been wanting one for years. We of course got it on sale. It is not a huge one but it meets our needs. I went through it this week to get an inventory of what I still had. There

Stay healthy everyone. Happy Easter! I hope you all are having a wonderful day at home. Today I am grateful for God, Jesus Christ and my church. Without them, this situation would be a lot harder to get through. I know that we will because I have faith. Even though Easter this year is so much different then normal years, it is still Easter and that is the important thing. Jesus has Risen.  What are you grateful for today?

Stay healthy everyone. Today I am grateful for my sisters. I spoke to 3 of them yesterday. All are doing well. I don't live near my parents(different state). One sister went shopping for them last week. A different one went shopping for them this week. They don't have to leave the house . We have been calling and checking in on each other and our families. Yesterday we got a package in the mail. It was chocolate cover apples from my one sister. We usually all spend Easter together and she usually does a big egg hunt for everyone. Since we won't be there she sent us a special treat.  What are you grateful for today?

Stay healthy everyone. Today I am grateful for my computer and the internet. It is pouring rain outside so there will be no gardening and no walks. So I will be on the computer today a lot. I get to talk to internet friends that have similar interests as me. I get to send my parents pictures because they don't have smartphones. I get to look up new recipes for YD and I to try out. I get to watch cute videos of animals instead of having to watch the news.  What are you grateful for today?

Stay healthy everyone. Today I am grateful for the beautiful weather. It is 65 and sunny with a slight breeze. We have been outside all day. I need a nap now. We have been doing yard work and getting lots done on the garden. I planted 4 bins of potatoes(1st time). Hubby built me a rack to put them on. I planted more strawberries. We transplanted some raspberry plants that were growing through out the yard. I then tied them up. Plus we did a yard cleanup of leaves and sticks. The weather was perfect to get it all done.  What are you grateful for today?

Stay healthy everyone. Today I am grateful for good friends. Over the last few weeks I have gotten so many phone calls from my friends to check up on my family. Do we need anything?  I have gotten texts about toilet paper and do I need some. Texts from a friend that was at a store that had eggs and bread. What do we want? Several trades have been going on. One friend ran out of potatoes so I gave her some. She dropped off a bottle of wine as thanks. We are all looking out for each other, not hoarding our supplies. My one friend loves to sew. She is making masks for the hospitals. Now that the CDC said to wear masks, she texted saying that she is making

Stay healthy everyone. Today I am grateful for having over the counter medication in my stockpile. I slept wrong and my neck is killing me. Normally I would take 2 Advil and go to the chiropractor. But with everything going on, I didn't want to go out. So I am getting by with ice packs, Advil and Hubby's tens machine. I am grateful that we had everything in the house so that no one had to run to the store and get anything. Hopefully by tomorrow I will be feeling better.  What are you grateful for today?

Stay healthy everyone. Today I am grateful for games. YD dusted off the Wii and we were playing it for hours today. It has been years since I have played the Wii. She kicked my butt, but we still had fun. We have been playing loads of old board games. We are even making my son play. A deck of cards has been sitting out on the table since this started and we have played almost everyday. What are you grateful for today?
