Adding To My Pantry


I keep a well stocked pantry. It really helps me keep my food costs down. When I find a good sale I could buy 20 of the same item so that I don't have to buy it again for 3 months. Well today I was near Stop & Shop so I stopped in to get the past 2 weeks of free items. They are going in Easter baskets so I will try and remember to show you them next week. I always check the marked down area in all of the local stores. And it usually pays off. Today was all about meat. 


I got a whole chicken marked down to 84 cents a pound. That went right into the freezer.


Specialty Italian Sausage marked down to $2. 64 a pound. We have never had this kind before but at that price I am willing to try it.



My best find was over six pounds of chicken legs for 49 cents a pound. We love chicken legs on the BBQ or in the smoker. I'm hoping we will be getting some nice weather soon so that we can do both.
I' m lucky to have an extra freezer in my basement. We have been eating up all of last years produce that we grew so I had plenty of room for these great finds. It is always kind of like a treasure hunt for me when I go into a market. I love to find the best deals possible

      Good luck. I always say a prayer before I go food shopping and it really does help me.Talk to your meat department people. Many times they have told me of a good sale because I am friendly to them.

    Oh yes, girl--check those clearance aisles! I can almost always find a few items at a great price to add to my pantry. I recently found bags of hearts of palm for 50 cents each. I like to make mock crab cakes, and the hearts of palm help to give a good texture. I'm excited, because Friday morning we are doing the big stock up shopping trip, and I will be hitting every clearance aisle in each store we go to.

    I know how pricey Stop and Shops can be so I know you did a great job with those markdowns! =)

      Aldi is my go to for everyday shopping. Stop & Shop and Shop Rite do have good markdowns and specials. I'm lucky that they are all really close. Target has eggs on sale this week 18 count for 99 cents, so I stopped in there and got 5 packages. It does save me money to shop around and I like doing it.

First Garden Harvest 2020

I hope everyone is healthy and doing alright with our new normal. When the weather permits I have been out side working on the gardens. My kale never died the winter because it was so mild. It recently started growing again.  I was able to pick a nice bunch this morning. I will be incorporating it into our meals this week. YD loves smoothies and always tosses some kale in. The gardening season has finally begin! Have you harvested anything from your garden yet this year?

Oreo Got Hurt

She is OK and that is the most important thing. We are not sure exactly what she did to herself but she started limping Monday night. I checked her paw to make sure there was nothing in it. Hubby and I decided to block the stairs and have her sleep on the first floor. She usually sleeps in our room. Hubby brought down her bed to the living room. In the middle of the night she did a loud yelp. You have to step on her for her to yelp so it was very strange. Hubby and I flew down the stairs to check on her. She was in pain and didn't want to put her foot down. We got her to lay down and I got ice on her leg. I wasn't sure if it was her paw, leg or shoulder. She finally went back to sleep and I did too.  YD is the first to get up and I heard her walking around. 2 minutes later Oreo let out another huge yelp. I ran down the stairs and she was in the kitchen. She had an accident on the floor and wanted to go outside. We have one little step out the back door and she had no prob...
