Things that are making me happy...
1. Happy Labor Day! No one is going to work or school today. We are all off which is rare. It is supposed to be a nice day and we are going to a friend's house for a BBQ later. I am in charge of desserts. Good friends, good food and I don't have to clean my house before. What could be better?
2. My garden. This is one of my busiest times of the year with the garden but I love it. The garden is producing pounds and pounds of gorgeous, healthy food for my family. The colors are so pretty. Almost every meal we are eating includes something from the garden.
3. My pantry. With the garden doing so well, I am adding lots to my pantry. Sauce is being made and canned every week. 2 different kinds of pickles have been made and some jam was even made. Peppers, cucumbers and pole beans have been added to the freezer. Basil, dill, sage, thyme, and parsley have been dried and added to the pantry also. Everything is filling up.
4. A working washing machine. Thank you Hubby for fixing it. It is so much easier then lugging everything to the laundromat or doing it by hand. I know, I'm spoiled.
5. NO STUPID LOANS! We paid for our son's 3rd semester of college. We didn't have to take out any loans. Hubby, the kids and I have worked really hard to get to this point in our lives. We will NEVER take out more debt. We are working hard to make sure that we can pay for their college (Baby Step 4). It will be very tight when YD starts next year but we can do it.
What is making you happy today? Remember happiness is a choice. You can focus on the good or the bad, I choose the good. Have a happy day!

Good Morning! Let's see....things that are making me happy today.....1. After two months of being a one car family, we stumbled upon a good deal for a second car and we did it without a car loan! 2. We have been able to swing our oldest daughter's first semester of college with a payment plan. 3. The sun is shining and it's supposed to be a beautiful (albeit hot) day! 4. Both of my daughters seem to be settling into the new school year well. 5. It's a new month and I feel energized to get on track in all aspects of my life!
ReplyDeleteGreat list!
DeleteHarvest baskets are the most beautiful things! All the food and colors.
ReplyDeleteSounds like you will have a great day ALL together.
Be proud my friend that you are paying college as it happens. Fantastic!
ENJOY
Thank you. I love the basket photo. Makes me so happy.
DeleteA working washing machine is definitely something to feel happy about! It's the pits without one. I'm happy today to see rain coming through, for the forecast of more to come. It's been terribly dry here where I live and so this rainy day is most welcome. Meg:)
ReplyDeleteI love rain. Glad you are getting some.
DeleteOh, that washing machine is a big deal! So glad it's up and running.
ReplyDeleteI've got my son's breakfasts and lunches all planned out, cooked and frozen. I'll reheat the breakfast in the morning, and toss his lunch together the night before and leave it in the fridge. This makes my mornings so much easier, as I'm barely awake when I stumble downstairs at 6 am (and after January, he'll have to start getting up at 5:45, so uuuuuggggggghhhhhhh!), and thus is making me very happy. :)
Being prepared always makes me happy. Great job.
DeleteYou are amazing!
ReplyDeleteI’m happy we are putting in a berry bush bed in the backyard but it will take us several days to finish.
I’m also happy we have some rain now and it’s forecast for the week, along with cooler temps.
We have blueberry bushes and this year I planted 6 strawberry plants. Free food always makes me happy. Glad you are getting some rain.
DeleteHi Mcoia and I have to say it is a fantastic accomplishment to send your child to college without getting a loan and paying cash :).
ReplyDeleteThings that make us happy are -
- Lots of lovely produce we are picking from the gardens.
- Cheap strawberries we have been able to purchase and freeze for jams and desserts.
- A tidy & clean food storage room, home and triple bay garage that we have just spring cleaned.
- Increased sales on the internet that are increasing our home deposit bank account.
- Cheap amber bottles we were able to pick up from an op shop for storing vanilla extract in.
- A happy marriage.
- 9 - 12 months of food storage we have worked hard on saving for and can now see great progress with this year.

9 to 12 months of food storage would make me ecstatic! I am always happy after something gets cleaned and organized. Great list.
DeleteAll three of our sons made it through college without loans. The first two years was a local junior college where they lived at home and earned scholarship money. When they left for 4 year schools, we lent the money with the understanding they will pay us back when they have good jobs and are making good money. It hasn't happened yet. All three are struggling to find good jobs. I don't care what the news says about the economy, it hasn't hit for the middle class around here. It will eventually improve so we aren't too worried. They are hard workers and good men. It has been worth it to help them get prepared.
ReplyDeleteAs for "What makes me happy right now?", I just came in hot and tired from the garden, the dishes have been washed, clothes are sorted in the laundry room ready to be washed, and the absolute best...a fresh pot of coffee is ready and waiting!!!!!! Life just doesn't get much better.

That is wonderful. I wish I could go back in time and change some things. Our oldest daughter went to an out of state college and it cost a lot. She took out stupid loans as did we. She did receive some money in scholarships but not enough. When the loans were getting high, I found Dave Ramsey and swore never to do it again. She is still paying off her loans. She will be done next year. We paid ours off in 2 1/2 years. She has a good job finally. That is helping her get rid of the loans faster.
DeleteOur son was fine with staying home and going to a state school that he commutes to. We pay 75% and he pays 25%. He works part time and lives on a budget so he is able to do it. Food is free at home so he takes food from here most of the time.
Our YD is a senior in high school. She is looking at several schools. Some are in state and some are not. She is at the top of her class and her scores are outstanding. She has been applying for scholarships for months and is continuing to do so. If she gets a large sum of money, then she can go out of state. If not, then she will have to go to a state school for a while. She will also be paying part of her tuition.
