My Frugal List: Week of March 25, 2019

March is already over and April is underway. The weather has been nicer lately with some rain thrown in. We have had 50-60's temps which is wonderful this time of year. The garden work is in full swing.

So, I am officially getting old. I needed reading glasses so I ordered them a few weeks ago. They came in and I am getting used to them. With insurance they costed me $10.

They would have cost me $437 without insurance. Hubby got new ones too. His were $25 and insurance saved us about $800. That is over $1200 saved. That is crazy.

The raspberry canes are all in and tied up. They look great.

Lots of my seeds that I planted have started sprouting.

I found some great clearance items this week.

Charcoal was marked down to $1.49.

2 liter bottles of soda were marked down to 24¢ so I grabbed 6.

Easter decorations were put out. Nothing new was purchased as we have plenty.

Hubby and I closed out our March budget and set up our April budget.

OD and I talk daily either on the phone, Facetime or text. She sent me this adorable picture of Ruby. I Can't wait to meet her.

I went to an origami class at the library with a friend. It was very interesting and we had a good time. We even came home with some extra supplies to make a few more creations.

The family and I redeemed these coupons that we got last week. We bought air fresheners($3) and got a candle for free. My friend offered me her 2 coupons because she wasn't going to use them so YD and I went and got 2 more. They are in the gift stash.

I had done rebates for Bic razors and received one in the mail.

The dishwasher needed to be cleaned out again. I do it every few months. It only takes about 15 minutes and really helps it be more efficient.

Hubby needed a button replaced on a pair of pants, my son wanted buttons on a jacket switched and I mended a few holes in a few articles of clothing.  There were some socks that were beyond repair and they were cut up. I use them to tie my tomato plants up.

We did all of our usually things: Used coupons and Ibotta when shopping, hung laundry, washed baggies, only ran full loads, turned the heat off several days and opened the windows.

What did you do this week to be frugal?

  1. Hi Mcoia and you did really well with all the markdowns and glad you had fun at the origami class too. That is a huge difference in price on your glasses for yourself and DH without insurance and what a great saving.

Our savings added up to $71.70 last week :).

    In the kitchen –

    – Made 3 loaves of bread in the breadmaker saving us $10.47 over buying them locally.
    – Made 3 batches of Moo yoghurt flavoured with our homemade strawberry jam saving $8.43 over purchasing it.

    In the gardens –

    – Pulled down 2 more posts from the grapeyard vineyard.
    – DH put together our post hole auger that turned up in the mail.
    – Tabatha the cat caught herself a 60 cm highly venemous Eastern Brown snake (the 2nd most venemous land snake) and dispatched it without being bitten. She brought it inside and quarantined it in the food storage room and wouldn’t let us in there until it had passed from this world. She is one fiercely protective cat with her humans and got to say an apt hunter.

    Finances and listings –

    – I listed 32 handmade items on eBay using a free listing promotion saving $52.80 on normal listing fees.
    – Paid our usual minimum fortnightly mortgage repayments and paid the additional monthly interest on the loan as well to save time and interest paid.

Have a great week ahead everyone :).
