Adding to my Pantry

The garden is doing wonderful. Free veggies from my garden is the best. We have been eating them as fast as we can. My son and Hubby are burnt out on salads. But the lettuce is still going strong. The second set of seeds that I planted are doing great. We may not have any gaps in lettuce this year. Our peppers have gone crazy producing so I am using them up as fast as I can. They are being eaten fresh, I made lots of chili, chicken fajitas, and omelettes. I need to start chopping some up for the freezers for the winter. Cucumbers are doing great. I have been picking them every other day. There are so many baby ones on the vines. I am hoping to get enough to make pickles. I got my first tomatoes! They all will be turning red now so I look forward to making and canning sauce soon.

I did hit a few stores also this week. The coupon at BJs is ending this week so I went with my daughter. We got 2 more cases of black beans for 99¢ each. The cookies are for Hubby's desk at work. They cost more to buy then to make but they are cheaper then him going out to eat, which he very rarely does. Milks were $2.19 each  My total at BJ's was $28.22.

We had a Shop Rite open near by. They had some great coupons for opening day.

Canada dry's were on sale 4 for $9.88. Veggie burgers were on sale for $3.99. YD loves this brand. Cake mixes were 99¢ each. Mushrooms were 99¢ too. Hot dogs were $1.99 each. Blueberries were 2 for $3 as was the cheese. My Shop Rite total was $44.94.

I went to Stop & Shop also. I am still using the coupons my friend gave me. The juice, ketchup and 1 pack of toilet paper were free. The cherries were $1.67 with a 5 pound limit so that is what I got. I paid $1.49 for the cheese after a coupon. The fish was on sale for $8.99 and I had a $2 off seafood purchase bringing it to $6.99 which I think is a good price. Ice creams were $1.99 each. I used a $5 off $25 purchase too. My Stop & Shop total was $29.41. I got $5.75 back from Ibotta.  My groceries for the week were $102.57.

My son is bringing home goodies from work. I brought the pastry ring to work to share with my coworkers. They enjoyed it very much. The bread was used for egg sandwiches and cold cut sandwiches. The cookies and pastries are being enjoyed by my son, YD and myself.

I also got some school supplies that were on sale. I have a bin that I keep them in and the kids take what they need. The notebooks were 50¢ each and the mechanical pencils were 99¢ per pack.

What did you add to your pantry this week? How is your garden doing? Did you find any good sales on back to school supplies?

  1. Well my garden is doing well. The greenhouse cukes are still producing strong. The peppers aren't quite ready yet. I've been dehydrating blueberries and herbs. We have so many blueberries! We are still eating Swiss chard left and right. Like your hubby I think we are getting burnt out on chard. My patty pan squash is ready. Tomorrow we're trying it. Are rutabaga is also ready. The peas are done. And almost the yellow beans. Sobeys our grocery store was having buy one get one free. So the pizza dough was .99 so that meant .50 each since we no longer have pennies here in Canada. We're trying not to buy meat since we have three freezer fulls! I'm working our way to just one. It's hard though. Phew.

    1. I jealous of your blueberries. Last year we planted 5 blueberry bushes but we only got a handful of blueberries. I can't wait until we get a ton. 50¢ for pizza dough is a great price. You will enjoy those cheap pizzas. Enjoy eating through your freezers. That will sure keep your grocery budget down.

  2. Hi Mcoia and you did really well with all those specials and rebates. We always celebrate produce from the gardens too and it tastes so much better than shop purchased usually :).

Last week we added to our pantry by -

    - Buying an additional 10 tins of smoked chicken for our food storage as well as another 12 pack of toilet paper.
    - In the gardens we picked 1.1 kg of cherry tomatoes and picked our first head of broccoli for the season from the gardens saving $16.02 over purchasing them in our local supermarket.

We did do our usual 2 monthly grocery shopping at Aldi with the total coming to $141.96 but still have our other supermarket to purchase at later this month or early next for a 3 monthly stock up. We are still waiting for the discount e-vouchers to come on again on eBay for 15% off everything we will purchase from there.

    1. Garden veggies are so much better tasting then store bought. In the winter I hate getting cucumbers and tomatoes for a salad because they are almost tasteless. That is great that you are starting to get broccoli already. We get ours in the fall from a local farmer. Huge heads for $3. I blanch and freeze a bunch then. Great job as always shopping.
