Chinese Food

Image
Hubby really wanted Chinese food for dinner. With buying his new to us truck, paying YD's tuition payment and wedding expenses, I am really watching our budget. So I went to my beloved pantry and freezers and I starting pulling things out. Chicken that I got on sale for 99¢ a pound. Low sodium soy sauce that we always have in the fridge from BJ's. Carrots, onions and broccoli(staples in our house) from the fridge. Canned water chestnuts, canned mushrooms and canned baby corn from my well stocked pantry shelves. Hubby made us chicken lo mein. It was delicious.  It probably cost us about $6 to make. The best part is there are a bunch of leftovers for lunch tomorrow.

I have been cooking up our pumpkins. I have 7 containers in the freezer and a bunch more pumpkins to still cook.  I bought several packages of marked down peppers. I chopped them up and froze them to use over the winter when pepper prices go up.  Chicken cutlets were on sale for $1.99. I bought several packs and broke them up into meal size baggies.  I bought a container of dried milk at Walmart. I like to always have a container on hand. With all of the holiday baking coming up now was a good time to get it.  Brownie mixes were on sale for 77¢ each with a limit of 8.  Cold medicine for less then a $1 is a great price. That went into my medical supplies.  Barley and lentils were on sale again. We will always use them in soups.  Goya dry peas were on sale for $1 each.  Soups were on sale for 88¢ if you bought 10. I had $1 off 5 so they were even less. I like to keep them on hand f...

We went to upstate NY for part of last week. We wanted to enjoy all of the beautiful fall colors and activities. This will be what I have gotten the last 2 weeks.  I bought 4 pumpkins from Aldi. They were on sale for $2.99 each. I will cook them up after Halloween.  Vegetable oil was on sale for $3.49 each, limit 2 so I grabbed them.  Whole peeled tomatoes were marked down to 21¢ each. I bought all of them.  Soups were marked down to 67¢. I only grabbed 2 for my son since I don't know if he will like them. I can't eat them because of the sodium and Hubby can't have them because they contain dairy.  Whole chickens were on sale with a coupon for 69¢ a pound, limit 2.  Pepsi was on sale for 77¢, limit 4. We host Thanksgiving so I got them early.  Taco kits were on the marked down rack. We love tacos.  They were $1.24 each. If the shells are broken, I will make a taco salad with the...

This time of year lots of canned goods go on sale. So I had to get some.  I stocked up on beans that were 2 for $1. It was a limit of 4 each so I got an assortment. We do use dried beans too. Canned are great for vacations or busy nights. I got 32 cans. I got a work out carrying them in and putting them away.  16 ounce bags were on sale too. I got 5 of the barley and 5 of the lentils. This will be great for soup all winter long.  Cases of dog food were 75% off. Oreo loves these so I got 3 cases.  Gala Apples were 88¢ a pound. You could only get 5 pounds.  Coffee was on the clearance rack.   These will be Christmas presents and go in baskets of food.  They were 75% off. Candy was marked down to 24¢. I would love to tell you that this is for Trick or Treaters but they are not. My son and I will eat them. I will also give some to P.  The garden is still giving...
