This time of year lots of canned goods go on sale. So I had to get some.  I stocked up on beans that were 2 for $1. It was a limit of 4 each so I got an assortment. We do use dried beans too. Canned are great for vacations or busy nights. I got 32 cans. I got a work out carrying them in and putting them away.  16 ounce bags were on sale too. I got 5 of the barley and 5 of the lentils. This will be great for soup all winter long.  Cases of dog food were 75% off. Oreo loves these so I got 3 cases.  Gala Apples were 88¢ a pound. You could only get 5 pounds.  Coffee was on the clearance rack.   These will be Christmas presents and go in baskets of food.  They were 75% off. Candy was marked down to 24¢. I would love to tell you that this is for Trick or Treaters but they are not. My son and I will eat them. I will also give some to P.  The garden is still giving...

Adding to my Pantry June 2019

My pantry is one of my happy places. I know that no matter what happens, I can feed my family. I try to buy items at the least expensive price. I shop sales, clearance, I use coupons and rebates. Doing all of these together insures that I pay the lowest prices on our groceries. We like to eat well. We cook most meals at home.  Here are some of the ways I added to my pantry the past 2 weeks.  Aldi had ground turkey for $3.49 a pack just over a pound. The $2 off coupons made them each $1.49.  My neighbor gave me 2 more packs of american cheese. These are great for grilled cheese sandwiches, omelettes, quesadillas, and mac n cheese. They both went into the freezer.  Granola was marked down to $1.37 each. These are great for YD as they are GF. She takes them to work with her. I have been picking lots of Kale from the garden. I clean it, dry it and then freeze it. It is great in smoothies. I am loving the dehydrator that...

I keep telling you about all of the clearance shelves at Stop & Shop. I thought I would show you some pictures so you get a better idea. There have been up to 6 shelving units at one time. This is the last week and a half. I have been stopping in when I am near by to see what new items are out.  Some days there are shopping carts full of stuff that can't fit on the shelves so you have to dig through the stuff. The items are marked from 25-90 % off. Some of the prices are OK and some are amazing. You have to know your prices.  YD loves cranberry juice.  These were $1,24 each. I've never had pomegranate juice before but for 99¢ each we will try it. These shelf stable soy milks were 54¢ each. I admit I cleared the shelf. I bought all 32. A few days later there were more and I bought all 16. I usually can get 2 of Hubby's soy milks on sale for $5. These work out being $2.16 for the same quantity. Just on the soy milk I saved over $34. Hub...

Same thing, different price?

Hubby asked if I could maybe get some kalamata olives from Meat Farms when I went. He loves them and I haven't gotten them in a while. I went today to get some fruits and vegetables. The olives that were by the deli were $5.99 a pound. I can get a really nice steak for that price. Hubby would not want me to spend that kind of money on olives.  I did my shopping getting the strawberries that were on sale 2 packs for $3. I got some lettuce since mine is still very small. I got 1 green pepper for 43¢ for fresh eating. I got apples that were on sale for 99¢ a pound. I then went into the condiment aisle to see if they had olives in a jar.  They did. The same kind of olives in a 16.9 oz jar were $2.49. I got more then a pound for less then half the price. Hubby is happy he got them and I can live with the price.  Look at this. I always check the meat rack. When did skirt steaks get so out of control? $18.99 a pound is crazy. It isn't from the local farm...
