Making Cents Of It All

Tomatoes are coming in like crazy. I have been using them up as fast as I can.  I dehydrated a bunch. I put them in a jar I had and added olive oil. They went into the fridge.   I cooked the rest of the tomatoes that I had at the time. I made pasta for dinner that night and I still had 3 containers for future, easy meals. They all went into the freezer.  I went to Aldi for milk and pumpkins. Pumpkins are $2.99 each this week. I got 4. They kids don't care about going pumpkin picking anymore. As long as we go apple picking I am told. We have gone apple picking twice already and are hoping to get a third time in soon. I will cook the pumpkins after Halloween.  I made cinnamon apples one morning. We were out of apple syrup so I cooked up the cores and peels to make some. It is so easy.  I got a little over a jars worth. Hubby used some on his waffles the next morning.  I cleaned out the fridge. ...

We had Hubby's company picnic this weekend. They always have lots to do. I enjoyed the BBQ and cotton candy. They always do a kids pinata but this year they did an adult one too. It was so funny to watch. It was filled with little plastic bottles of liquor.  You had to spin around five times and then swing. No way my vertigo could handle that so I just watched.  They do several free raffles for the employees. And Hubby won one. We always sign up to be on the clean up crew. We brought home lots of leftovers. I made trays for several of the younger single people to take home food too. They were shy to come up and make it themselves but were grateful when I handed them trays already done.  Hubby and I stopped at some yard sales. I spent $1.  Hubby spent $4.  YD is keeping busy at school. She brought art supplies with her. Her new friends and her are painting lots of rocks they found on campus. She is making some for gift...

It has been so busy the last few weeks. All good stuff but busy. The most important thing that happened is OD got  engaged . We are so happy for them. Since that means there is a wedding in the future, lets look at some ways I saved money recently.  We celebrated Easter early with OD and her BF. We always do an egg hunt. They were finding them for days after we left. We went to an event at the college YD will be attending this August while we were in Maryland. We slept at OD's apartment (thanks). We brought Long Island bagels with us and had them for breakfast both days. We packed cold cuts and made sandwiches for lunch while driving both ways. We had lunch at the college(it was included). We did treat OD to take out while we were there for dinner. It was short but we sure packed a lot in.  Hubby and I made Ruby a welcome to the family present. March is already over and April is underway. The weather has been nicer lately with some rain thrown in. We have had 50-60's temps which is wonderful this time of year. The garden work is in full swing.  So, I am officially getting old. I needed reading glasses so I ordered them a few weeks ago. They came in and I am getting used to them. With insurance they costed me $10. They would have cost me $437 without insurance. Hubby got new ones too. His were $25 and insurance saved us about $800. That is over $1200 saved. That is crazy.  The raspberry canes are all in and tied up. They look great.  Lots of my seeds that I planted have started sprouting.  I found some great clearance items this week.  Charcoal was marked down to $1.49. 2 liter bottles of soda were marked down to 24¢ so I grabbed 6.  Easter decorations were put out.
