Adding to my Pantry
I got red meat! Woo hoo! I was getting worried. I have been out of ground beef and had 1 flank steak left. We were fine on meat in general. I have a ton of chicken and pork. I made several trips to Stop N Shop. On my first trip I picked up past freebies, dog food and cottage cheese. I gave the cottage cheese to my sister since we don't eat it. I also got lots of marked down eggs.
I had to do 3 different trips to get as much meat as I wanted. They had a sign saying only 2 packages per customer. So I only got 2 at a time. Each package had 2 very large london broils. They were $1.99 a pound.
I processed all of the meat and it is ready in the freezer for future meals. As you can see I also got some other goodies. By using Ibotta I got paid to buy the cookies, laundry detergent, soda and tomatoes. I call that a win.
I have a six month supply now of detergent. Stop N Shop had several downloadable coupons for different Arm & Hammer detergent. So I bought each kind that I could. I already had a good supply but I would say that I have enough now to last at least 6 months maybe more.
We were out of lettuce and sour cream. Hubby asked for the glad press and seal for a project. He saw a YouTube video and wants to try it out. All 4 trips to Stop N Shop totaled $77.28. The meat total is $49.19. Everything else costed me $28.09.
There was a small run to Whole Foods. Hubby was out of his sour cream and we made chili. They also had the raw almonds he liked so I got some too. There were a few other items bought there but they are for a Mother's Day gifts so they don't go in my grocery budget. Total $6.68
I stopped in at Meat Farms to see what was on the reduced racks. I got lots of produce. Each wrapped pack cost $1.59. I got 8 zucchini, 11 peppers and 10 bananas. I also got regular priced apples since we were out. Meat Farms total was $9.68
I had a request for lunch meat. BJ's is the cheapest when it is not marked down. Got 1/2 pound of turkey and ham. Milk is always needed so got that too. We have been using a lot of lime juice lately (YD smoothies). Fresh is always better but I wanted to make sure I had some always on hand. Chocolate chips are a staple in our house. We bought some other non grocery items there as well. BJ's total $29.79.
A trip to Dollar Tree also happened. It's allergy season and we are going through tissues. Total $16
More bread and bagels have been added for free. Thank you my son.
Lots of kale. I gave a big bag to my sister also.
Total on groceries this week came to $139.43. I budget $400 a month but I have a nice surplus right now because I started the year off with a pantry challenge. I'm really happy with what I got this week. We ate really well, my freezers are stuffed and the pantry looks great. Just how I like it. Did you add anything to your pantry this week? What great deals did you get? What are you getting from your garden?
Hi and we haven't found much in the way of clearances which is usual on meat here in our country town but we did find a few. I will go on our grocery expenditure from the beginning of the month which was $62.20 including a kettle worth $9 as our finally bit the dust and takeout of a roasted chicken on clearance and chips and a soft drink from home for our anniversary dinner in the park.
ReplyDeleteOn usual prices we stocked up on 3 x 500g corn flour and some generic chocolate chips we wanted to try which by the way are good so we will swap brands on these because they are a lot cheaper.
We bought on sale -
- 3kg of oranges from one shop that had them 0.50c cheaper than most other shops.
- 3 chicken Maryland on 50% off special saving $4.63 on usual prices reduced from $6kg to $3kg.
- Our friend gave us 12 more lemons from her tree which we are making into more orange and lemon marmalade.
- We made 4 more jars of orange and lemon marmalade saving around $15 over purchasing a good quality no preservative brand in the supermarkets. We now have 9 jars in stock.
We are continuing to make more marmalade again today in our bread making machine and will have around 6 more batches or 12 jars to go. This will save us another approx. $45 on buying marmalades and we will be stocked probably for about 6 months and I am using jam and pasta sauce jars given to me washed out and sterilised and other jars we have saved from grocery items we have purchased to store the jams in. Always good having no expense on buying jam jars which are here anywhere from $1.50 - $3ea.

I have made jam in my bread machine. I was nervous the first time but it came out great. Homemade is so much better. Have a great day.
DeleteGlad you were able to get some bargain beef. I keep looking for really big sales but none are really happening here. Maybe next week!
