Friday Freebies

YD and I went to the mall on Sunday . There were a few freebies being given out since it was National Lip Stick Day. They have a day for everything. MAC was giving out a free lipstick to everyone, no purchase. So we got to the mall about 15 minutes before the store opened. There was already a line, so we joined it. They were giving out wristbands and we were in the first 100. They only had a certain number of free lipsticks.

I rarely wear makeup so I told YD to pick out 2 colors she liked and I would get one. They still had both colors available when we got ours. They retail for $18 a piece. I do not buy YD makeup. That is out of her own money as we don't deem it a necessity. I do get her free makeup when ever I can. We had fun talking on line to each other and a few other folks waiting. I was impressed with how many men were waiting online with their wives to get a lipstick for them. The staff did come around and give us free samples of face lotion too. I have been using it all week. It smells really good.

We then headed over to Sephora as they were giving out free face masks. Again I don't use them so I gave YD mine. She also received her free birthday gift. She picked the face mask and face lotion kit. She did buy 2 items with a gift card she was given. She was interested in trying out a new product that had very good reviews. When we found the item it was $56. She was not interested in buying it for that price. The saleslady offered her a free sample (small container at top) and she was very happy to try it.

YD then treated me to an Ultra Caramel Frappuccino with a gift card that she was given. We had a fun girls day out getting lots of freebies and talking.

Saturday we ate dinner at my sister's house. A friend's son was visiting and we got to all see him there. My sister treated us to Chinese food. She was going away the next day so we took home all of the leftovers. She also sent us home with stuff from her fridge. We got carrots, lemons, ginger, bananas, lettuce and broccoli. The cheese was from our friend's son for my sister but she told me to take it home as she would never eat it all. We were happy to do so. I have been using all of the items in meals all week.

The garden has been doing great. I have been picking items between the rain. I haven't had to water which has been great. I've picked string beans, lettuce, cucumbers, banana peppers, jalapenos, thyme, basil, parsley, and dill. I have been letting the rest of the peas go to seed so I having been picking them as they are ready and drying them. I have also collected seeds from the peppers and kale. Collecting the seeds helps keep my garden costs down.

I received a wall calendar for 2019 and mailing labels free from Arbor Day Foundation because we have donated to them in the past. It is a great organization. It is perfect for the side of my refrigerator.

Hubby and I have been trying to go for lots of walks lately. I have found lots of change along the way. The other day I found these headphones. They are in great shape. They are Beats. They retail for $99.95. That is crazy. I took them home an cleaned them with Lysol wipes and rubbing alcohol. They are now mine.

YD and a friend went to the movies to see Ant Man and The Wasp. They used my free work passes. She brought her reusable water bottle and a snack with her. The other mom and I carpooled. They had a great time and loved the movie.

I went to Stop & Shop armed with lots of coupons. I got several items free.

My friend had given me coupons a few weeks ago. Every week you get a free item. This week it was free OJ. I got high pulp because that is how the men like it.

Toilet paper was on sale buy one get one free. Ibotta had a 50¢ rebate for each one. So I got 1 pack free and the second pack for $1.99. That makes each roll 25¢ each.

Last weeks Friday Freebie from Stop & Shop was this ketchup. Ibotta had a $1 rebate on it. We are happy to try it out since they are paying us too.

A coworker brought in a bunch of candy to work, I snagged several mini packs of peanut M&Ms. They are my weakness.

We have been reading books from the library. We also took out DVDs and CDs. Love my library!

My son is back at work after his trip to Italy. The free bagels, pastries and bread are back. We are happy to eat them and prevent food waste.

Did you get any freebies this week?

Comments

  1. I got a package of ready rice from Safeway and a Kind bar from Fred Meyers. I just finished up the peaches my sister gave me last week, and still have cabbage from her in the fridge. My garden is exploding, so while not exactly free (what with all the labor and seed costs) I am not having to pay money for a lot of what we are eating. In fact, I'm debating if I can skip my usual Friday shopping trip today. I'm still thinking.....

    1. I count the garden as free because I paid for it already, whether I get 10 pounds or 100 pounds. That is great that you are getting so much from your sister. Its got to be great that she has an orchard. Good luck if you go food shopping.

  2. Holy cow, you seriously lucked out finding those headphones! What a fabulous find!

I was at a yard sale this morning where I grabbed a pair of shoes (for me) and a jacket for my daughter. The lady running it told me the shoes were three dollars, which was a fair price, and then told me I could just have the jacket (which was name brand!!!) and to go through the clothes and I could just have whatever I wanted for free. I picked out a few pieces for my daughter. That jacket was exactly what we needed for the winter, it was on our list but we hadn't run across one yet this season, and I was starting to get worried, because yard sales are starting to wind down here. But this worked out perfectly, and at a perfect price! :)

    1. $3 for shoes is a great price. That was very nice that she let you take the jacket and some extra clothes for free. I love looking at yard sales.

  3. Hi Mcoia and you did really well for the week and those earphones are a great find considering they are really expensive to buy.

I agree the produce in our gardens is somewhat free once you have recouped your expenses for seeds and the like as it costs us around $30 to set up a huge garden bed (we use mainly saved seeds from our last crops) and once we recoup that we consider our produce to be free to us. Do agree there is a lot of love and labour that go into keeping our garden beds maintained Becky :) .

    This weeks freebies were -
    - 497 g of organic thyme picked and dried from the gardens saving $73.55 over purchasing the same amount. We have recouped all our garden costs many times over by selling a lot of dried thyme on the internet.

    - Picked more French and English lavender from the gardens.

    - Harvested 2.5 kg of cherry tomatoes from a volunteer plant saving us $30 over purchasing them in the supermarkets.

    - Received 3 dozen free range eggs from a friend who had too many from his farm saving another $12 over purchasing them.

    - Cut .75 of a cubic metre of Ironbark hardwood firewood free from a friends farm nearby, apart from a little fuel, saving us $150 over purchasing it locally.

    Have a great week :).

    1. You had some wonderful freebies. You have some great friends too. Yes, the garden is lots of work but I love it and will do it no matter what. I love sitting out there in the morning all by my self. It is one of my happy places.
