Friday Freebies

Hubby is very happy with the above freebie that I found this week. I am part of a local group online called NEXTDOOR. It is great for finding out about street closings, construction, robberies and free stuff. A family in our neighborhood put their house on the market and it sold 2 days later for the asking price. CASH. They have to be out in 30 days. I don't think they thought it would sell that fast because they haven't started purging. Well, they are giving most of their stuff away. They listed this drum set (valued at about $1000) for free. I saw the post 9 minutes after it was listed and I quickly said I would take it. We picked it up the next night and hubby is ecstatic.

Hubby has played the drums since he was a teen. We have a whole kit in our basement. So why do we want another kit? One of our best friends plays the keyboards. He has a 3 tier setup. His son plays the drums. His son bought a house a year and a half ago and took his drums with him. Hubby and our friend haven't been able to have jam sessions often because it is a pain in the behind to lug everything back and forth. We have talked about buying a used set so he could leave it at our friend's house. With saving for college it was not a priority so it never happened. Now Hubby has a nice free set that we can put at our friend's house and they can jam whenever they want.

My son brings home goodies from work that would end up in the garbage otherwise. We are happy to eat them or share them with others.

Every other day I am picking a basket full of garden produce. We are enjoying all of the vegetables.

I think this is my best year ever on cucumbers. I have to up my pickle production.

I made 10 pints of dill pickles.

I made 6 quarts and 3 pints of sauce so far.

I made 1 and a half pints of cherry jam to use up half of a container of tart cherry juice that I had gotten free. I made it in my bread machine. It is so easy to do. Just put everything in, turn it on and walk away.

We liked it so much I made jam with the other half of the juice. I pureed some cherries that I had gotten on sale and froze and added them in. I used smaller jars so I don't have exact amounts.

I brought a friend some goodies from my garden and soup since she is recovering from surgery. She didn't do a full garden but did do herbs in pots. She insisted that I take a bunch home.

I got a free frosting from Stop & Shop. Chocolate of course. I love their digital coupons.

Work was throwing away some expired tea. I took some home.

We don't care that it is expired. We will use it anyway. These are $6 a box at the store.

YD and I both used 2 coupons from Petco to get free dog bones and kitty litter. The coupon expires today.

What freebies did you get this week? What did you get from your garden this week?

  1. AN ENTIRE FREE DRUM SET?!?!?!??? That is unbelievable!!! Good for you guys. Your husband must be thrilled! That's one of the most amazing things I've ever heard anyone getting for free!

I have three buckets of tomatoes I need to deal with, but most of my days have been taken up by my physical therapy sessions and the ensuing exhaustion afterwards, so I'm hoping I'll get to those this weekend. I did pick up a WINIX Air Washer someone was offering for free on a local group, so that'll go into my basement to help with the musty smell it gets sometimes in the winter. I'm pretty excited about that. :)

    1. The only thing it was missing was the drum pedal. Hubby can just bring his back and forth or that could be a Christmas gift. He gave us the stool, his sticks and a cow bell. He is listing more stuff everyday so I have been keeping an eye on the listings.

Sorry you are so tired after PT. Take it easy on yourself. Could you throw the tomatoes in the freezer if you have room and deal with them at a later time? I have done that before. Or break it up into different days. Cut them up one day. Make sauce the next and then can them the third. Or maybe you could bring a friend to help. Good luck.

Great find on the air purifier. It amazes me what people give away.

  3. Wow! That is one amazing freebie. Kudos to you for seeing the offer and snagging it. We have a drum kit that is never used unless the whole family is in town. I will probably not be so generous when we downsize.

    1. I couldn't believe he was giving it away. One of the cymbals is worth $300 alone. They have to be out soon and he just doesn't have time to sell anything. At least he is being nice and giving it away. Some people wouldn't even take the time to do that. They would just throw it away.

  4. Wow! Definitely an awesome find on the drums. I've never understood why tea and coffee expires. I troll the clearance bins for half priced coffee. Lol. My son works part time in a national chain donut shop but their stales go in the garbage. Such a shame. And a major waste.

    1. The companies put expiration dates on items so that customers throw away perfectly fine items and buy new ones. They started in the 1970's. Before that I guess everyone was eating bad food.

Sorry your son's job throws everything away. That is a shame. I hate food waste.

  5. Wow! You had a very good week. Your garden produce is beautiful.
I’m sure that tea is perfectly fine and delicious.
My “freebies” this week weren’t free, but I did very well at CVS Sunday and stocked up on fancy dog food and oil air fresheners at Dollar General, after coupons, it was about half price.

    1. I like half price items. I saw what you got at CVS and you did great. You are very good at rolling the ECB and matching coupons to sales.

    1. You can save so much on doing haircuts at home. I am going for a real haircut this month because we have a wedding. Haven't had one all year. Been getting by with me doing my bangs and OD doing the rest.

  7. That is an amazing freebie! I got just expired tea while dumpster diving at BAM. I don't drink coffee or tea, but my friends do. I am thinking about cutting my own hair if my exbf does not this Tuesday!

    1. I hope he cuts your hair for you. I find it is easier for someone else to do the back.
