Adding to my Pantry
The garden is winding down. I am still getting some tomatoes, peppers, pole beans and carrots. I have a few cucumbers that I can pick. The herbs are still doing well and I am picking and using them fresh. I have been drying some too. Seeds are dried and ready for next year. I will be sad to stop having all of the free fresh produce. I did can lots so we will enjoy it this winter.
I went to Meat Farms for grapes and broccoli. They had lots of good stuff on the marked down rack. Each package was $1.59. I got apples, squash and orange peppers. My total was $11.76.
I went to BJ's. I used $1.50 off coupon for the Silk. I used $1 off coupon for the cold cuts. My total was $53.73.
Staples sent another $10 off $10 purchase. With my son and I having colds, we have been going through lots of tissues. I paid 53¢
My total for the week was $66.02.
For September, I spent $456.50. My total for the year was $3481.63. My monthly average is $386.84. I have a surplus of $118.37.
What did you add to your pantry this week?
Hi Mcoia and you did really well with all the produce you picked from your gardens, the discounted fruit and vegetables and taking advantage of discount vouchers :).
ReplyDeleteNo grocery shopping done this week still saving last 2 e-vouchers to top up used items with in mid November.
We did add to our pantry with -
- 1 kg of broad beans picked from the gardens saving $6 over purchasing them.
- 500 g of snow peas picked from the gardens saving $13 over buying them.
- Last of all 23 bunches of silver beet.
We blanched and froze them all for freezer stocks in meals sized portions.
In the garage we also added 2 x 4 shelf stainless steel shelving units so we can get rid of more bulky old wardrobes that are falling apart in there. This will be less to move when we buy our property and will be far more organised. Finishing this off today by putting them together and moving what's in the wardrobes onto the shelves. Then it will be a tip run to get rid of them and it should look a whole lot better in there.

Shelving units are so sturdy and are easier to keep organized. Snow peas are one of my favorites. Enjoy!
DeleteGreat deals! I miss my grocery store's markdown rack. They stopped, and I don't think I'll ever stop being bummed that it's not there anymore.
ReplyDeleteAnother one of my stores does have a decently priced clearance section. Some of the cans are dented or the boxes a bit squished, but that doesn't bother me. I got five boxes of Kraft Deluxe mac and cheese from there today for 99 cents each. NOT something I usually eat, but it's okay once in a great while, and my son likes it when he's sick, so I bought them to stick in the back of the pantry for those occasions. I also bought a pack of fig cookies from those shelves at my daughter's request, for 99 cents as well.
We had pears on sale for 38 cents a pound, which was nice, and strawberries for 99 cents for a large package. We're kind of swimming in fruit here, as we still have a TON of apples from apple picking, and we have a cantaloupe from a week or so ago that we need to eat. :)
One of the stores near me stopped the marked down rack. I spoke with the manager about it and he said it was cheaper for the store to throw away the stuff then to pay someone to mark it down. I rarely shop there anymore. Dented boxes don't bother me either.
DeleteGlad you were able to get some of your kids favorites for such good prices. Enjoy all of the fresh fruit.
WOW the 1.59 produce looks wonderful. What a great find. I picked a few tomatoes this week. Still getting peppers and okra - not much else. It is coming to an end sadly.
ReplyDeleteYou do so well.
Thank you. It is sad when the garden ends but then I get to start planning for next years garden.
