$100 Grocery Challenge: End of January 2020

Our regular grocery budget is $500 a month. That is for 4 adults. Hubby has a dairy allergy, YD can't eat gluten and I am on a low sodium diet. This includes all of our food, cleaning and hygiene items. I was hoping to spend $100 or less in January. Our pantry is full and so were the freezers. But plans change sometimes. I came across a great sale on ground beef that I couldn't pass up. And then a friend let me know of a sale on chicken breasts that were 99¢ a pound. YD and I went to see if anything was left. 


And there was. I ended up getting 44 pounds of chicken cutlets. YD lives on chicken so she was very happy about this. 


I repackaged everything into smaller bags for future meals.  


I also bought 2 juices that were on sale and GF bagels. The total was $56.68. My previous total was $125.54.  My new total is $188.22. I am good with that. I bought 80+ pounds of meat this month.

    What a fantastic deal on chicken!!! Good job on stocking up. Money in the bank.
    I am doing low spend again for Feb. Why not?

    I wish I could find chicken that cheap. I, too, would buy many packages.

      I haven't seen it this low in a long time. The best I usually see is $1.69 for breasts.

    I would have gladly gone over $100 budget on food if I'd been presented with cheap beef and chicken deals too. No point in cutting off your food nose to spite your money face, right? lolz

    Wow! That's cheap. We bought boneless skinless chicken breasts for $2.99/lb and we were impressed with that. We also bought whole chicken for .99 cents a pound and lean ground beef for 2.99/lb. for around here that's awesome deals. We also got 3 meals from Good Foods for free. I don't think we will renew. It's too expensive.

      I can't remember the last time I saw chicken breasts this low. I got all I could fit in the freezer.

First Garden Harvest 2020

I hope everyone is healthy and doing alright with our new normal. When the weather permits I have been out side working on the gardens. My kale never died the winter because it was so mild. It recently started growing again.  I was able to pick a nice bunch this morning. I will be incorporating it into our meals this week. YD loves smoothies and always tosses some kale in. At 7 am Saturday morning a truck came and dropped of 8 yards of topsoil. Then Hubby, the kids and I got to work. It was a beautiful day out, sunny and 60 degrees. Perfect for hard labor. We have a wheel barrel and a garden wagon that can dump. 4 shovels in hand and off we went.  We had several trees taken down a few years ago. Then 2 years ago we had the driveway done. Last year we had the siding on the house done. Time to fix the lawn. We have lots of dips in the front and back yard from all of the work. I am a little clumsy and have fallen several times in them. We were able to level out the front yard and fill in the holes in the back yard. The back yard has a large hill so it will never be level but it is more of a gentle slope now. Some places didn't get dirt because they didn't need it.  We ordered pizza since I was too tired to cook. After dinner Hubby spread grass seed everywhere. Today it is raining lightly.  It was hard work but we got it done and h
