My Frugal List: Week of May 6, 2018

Happy Belated Mother's Day. I hope everyone had a wonderful day with your loved ones. I got to see my mom, dad and 2 sisters on Saturday for an early Mother's Day. My sister made a wonderful dinner and wouldn't let my mom or I do anything. It is nice to be spoiled. I brought lots of bread and bagels for my parents ans sisters since my son has been closing at work more often. Might as well share all of the goodies. My little sister brought me my birthday present since I won't see her for it. She got me a Panera gift card and wet walnuts, 2 things I will use happily.  We did our normal swap. I got coupons, jars, a dog food that was a freebie, 2 pocketbooks and some tide pods that my sister got for pennies.  They live out of state so we always have things collected for each other.

On Sunday I was treated to homemade waffles with bacon. They were yummy. YD did all of the dishes on Sunday for me. Hubby ordered heroes for dinner and then we went to see Avengers Infinity War at my job. It was a great day. It was rainy out so we couldn't do anything outside so I read some of my new book and hung out with my family. I did receive a few presents. Hubby and the kids are very sweet. I also received homemade cards which I love. OD sent me a funny card and face-timed with me.

It was a wonderful week outside. Lots of yard work and garden projects got done. It rained twice so I only had to water one day.

Panera is running a special by us. If you spend $50 on a gift card you get a $10 bonus card. They don't do this offer by my mom's house so I always tell her when they are running it. I got 5 bonus cards between my mom and me. With Mothers Day, birthdays, Fathers's Day and Graduations I can give out lots of GC. I always buy them when they go on sale. With my son's discount that $50 lasts us a while. I made a second trip so that is why there are only 2 GC pictured.

I listed 5 items on eBay. 2 of them sold. I shipped them out in old envelopes that I already had.

I got 2 more packs of  london broils on sale for $1.99 a pound. I processed it all so that it is easier to use when I need it.

We ate very well this week. Hubby has been asking for chili. Since I made ground beef I was able to make it. I made a huge pot of it. He ate chili 3 nights this week. He was  a little sad when I froze the rest. I made it on rice 2 nights and pasta the other. I also made pineapple chicken in the crockpot, pulled pork in the crockpot, coleslaw, eggs with home fries, bagels, steal cut oats, souffles,  hard boiled eggs, egg salad, quesadillas, and leftover soup.

I made more taco seasoning.

My Husband worked on his truck some more. He is doing most of the work himself. He did order some parts but doing it himself saves us on labor costs. He also washed all of the cars and did lots of yard work.

I got some free sneaker balls from DSW. I had a birthday $5 and a $5 reward. I spent $0 OOP!

I found a nice table that I am going to restain in a free pile. I also grabbed a little rolling cart.

I did really well on Ibotta. I will be getting over $15 back just from last weeks shopping. I shopped sales and used coupons too.

Hung laundry when it was nice outside otherwise I hung it up on my clothes racks.

My neighbor is listing their house for sale. They keep asking us if we want stuff as they are cleaning out. I took several things so far.

The garden is doing great. My plants are getting big. My kale is growing like crazy. I gave a bag of it to my sister.

We had a wonderful Friday night. We did our first firepit of the year. We played music and roasted marshmallows. I look forward to doing lots of night like this through out the summer.

What did you do this week to save money?

Comments

  1. Hi Mcoia and everyone and happy belated mothers day to you and everyone else :) . We had a nice quiet day at home.

Here is what we did last week in our home to save money -

    Finances -
    - Banked more money into our saving for our home deposit bringing us to 25.35% of the way there.
    - Made $5.95 from the sale of dried sage from the gardens on the internet.
    - Listed 10 homemade items on eBay taking advantage of a free listing promotion saving $16.50 on usual listing fees.

    Purchases -
    - Purchased 3 chicken Maryland on 50% off special saving $4.63 on usual prices.

    Sewing -
    - Made two bread bags from fabric I had here and listed one on eBay in my internet shop.

    In the kitchen -
    - Made all meals and bread from scratch.
    - Made a quadruple batch of honey, almond, coconut, almond and sultana granola saving $27.85 over purchasing the same amount in the supermarkets.

    In the gardens -
    - Picked 3 cobs of corn and a bunch of silver beet from the gardens saving $9.10 over purchasing it.
    - Trimmed the sage, lavender blossoms, and rosemary and hung them to dry for more herbs and lavender for home use and some for sale on the internet.
    - Separated more dried lavender making 21g more for our stocks and some for sale saving around $3 over purchasing it.
    - Worked on another lily bed and dug up and trimmed half of the canna lilies and native lilies to put into a newly amended flower bed and put the scraps and trimmings in the bin.
    - Mulched the equivalent of 1 x 9 x 2mt garden bed using half hay and half dried grass clippings and dried leaves raked from the yard and ran it through our ride on lawn mower with catcher. This saves us using and buying so much hay as it is getting rather expensive here.
    - We used dish rinsing and shower warm up water to supplement water newly planted lily and vegetable seeds and seedlings in the gardens.

I hope everyone has found some ways to save last week :).

  2. I don't know what wet walnuts are. Except, well...walnuts covered with water??? I would love to be enlightened:)

It sounds like you got a lot done this week. You have so many bagels and rolls, etc., that must help so much!

What kinds of things did you buy that got you $15 back? I'm just taking mental notes because I just started with that this week.

    1. They are a topping for ice cream or waffles. They are walnuts in a syrup. I do not buy them for myself as a tiny jar costs about $4. I am happy to get them as gifts. They are so good.

Ibotta has lots of bonuses. That is where the money adds up. I did a post explaining it all. I bought 3 packs of Oreos and got back $3, $1.20 for Arm & Hammer detergent, 25¢ for Canada Dry, 70¢ for Tuttorosso Tomatoes, 25¢for any item. There were 3 bonuses. I got $5, a $3, and a $2. That was the best week I have ever done. Good luck. It took me a while to really get into it but now it is a regular part of shopping for me.
